Salient Features

The Lohit word in the Lohit Youth Library Network name does not represent only the present Lohit district — it represents the entire region of the erstwhile undivided Lohit Valley.

  • De-institutionalised library movement.
  • Reimagined as Reading Rooms and Learning & Discussion Centres.
  • Each library is managed by volunteers and readers themselves.
  • Storytelling, poetry recitation, loud reading, book talks, discussions and quiz sessions promote the joy of reading.
  • Visits, public talks and interaction sessions with visitors from many places.
  • Periodic mini book exhibitions and sales for youth, reaching towns and villages right up to the last China border village in upper Lohit Valley.
  • Extension service is the core of the movement — reader-volunteers spread the joy of reading in their spare time.
  • In effect, the library goes out to readers in schools near and far.
